The red-brick main building is open for public visits on Friday afternoons between 14:00 and 16:00 and it only costs around £10 entry. If you can only manage a whistle-stop tour of Windsor, pop into the Alexandra Gardens and take a spin on the Royal Windsor Wheel.
For £6 you can see the grounds of Windsor Castle and Eton College, as well as the River Thames and the pretty English countryside. Much like its larger cousin, the London Eye, the Royal Windsor Wheel gives you 360˚ views over the town. And, on a good day, you can see as far as London. Wind down your afternoon with some traditional grub, like fish and chips, in one of Windsor’s pubs, like the Two Brewers or the Duchess of Cambridge.

The best time to visit Windsor Castle in peak season is during the week and after or during the changing of the guards at 11:00 am. Windsor Castle can be very crowded on weekends and first thing in the morning. While it is tempting to get there for 10 am sharp opening, it is important to take note that most coaches arrive at Windsor Castle for opening.
They then stick around for the changing of the guards at 11:00 am. If you don’t care too much about seeing the changing of the guards in the castle grounds, arriving after 11:00 will offer fewer crowds and will give you plenty of time to explore the castle grounds before closing at 4:14 pm.
