Can you get BA tier points without flying?
About Tier Points | Executive Club As well as Avios, you’ll collect Tier Points when you fly with us and our one world ® partners. Avios unlock your rewards, Tier Points unlock your Club benefits. Here’s what you need to know about Tier Points:
There are four Executive Club tiers: Blue, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Your Executive Club membership begins at the Blue tier and Tier Points help you climb the tiers. You collect Tier Points when you fly. The amount you earn depends on your ticket type and fare class. The more Tier Points you collect, the more benefits you’ll receive as you move through the tiers. Unlike Avios, Tier Points can’t be spent on rewards and they reset back to zero every year.

What is the best way to get tier points British Airways?
Elite status in the British Airways Executive Club programme makes your travel more comfortable, and rewarding. The only way to earn this status is by earning Tier Points flying British Airways or their partner airlines, including American Airlines, Iberia, Qatar Airways and Aer Lingus each membership year.
Bronze: 300 Tier Points or take 25 eligible flights Silver: 600 Tier Points or take 50 eligible flights Gold: 1500 Tier Points
It is worth noting that, like some other airlines, the British Airways Executive Club also has an additional level of status that aren’t published:
Gold Guest List: 5,000 Tier Points to start, maintained by earning 3,000 Tier Points per subsequent year which allows Concorde Room access regardless of class of service.
Tier Points reset at the end of each membership year so you will need to start from zero (apart from Gold Guest List as described above). Can you convert Avios to tier points?
Can you swap Avios points for BA tier points? – No, you can’t swap your Avios for British Airways tier points, or your BA tier points for Avios. The two schemes are totally separate. Tier points are used to determine your BA status from year to year, whilst Avios is a reward currency which you can collect over multiple years to get free flights.
Do you get tier points if you upgrade at airport?
In my experience J tier points are awarded. But you don’t get anything if you upgrade an avios booking with money at the airport.
Can I access British Airways lounge if not flying with them?
(Guest must be travelling on British Airways or one of our oneworld partners). All lounge access is subject to capacity restrictions. The First lounges are available for customers who are: flying on a scheduled British Airways flight in First.
How to get 40 BA Tier Points?
How many British Airways tier points do I earn flying to,? – The list below calculates the tier points you earn for British Airways flights from London, The tier points shown are for a one-way flight. For simplicity we have shown all travel classes although an increasing number of long-haul routes do not have First Class. To earn British Airways Executive Club status, you need to earn:

Re: BA Tier points on Qatar 6 years ago “You get 140 Tier Points for each long haul sector on QR business.” – 140 for most long haul sectors (and for the OP if a 7 hour sector), but as with BA, some longer QR business class sectors would yield 160 Tier Points when crediting to BAEC. DOH to SYD/MEL/JFK would be in this category, there may be others.
How do you get 180 tier points in BA?
What are tier points? – The BA First Check-In area at London Heathrow T5 Many frequent flyer programmes are based on the miles you fly – and if you reach x or y, you will get status. Status means some recognition from the airline to passengers who frequently choose to fly with them.
On the Executive Club programme, you have 4 tiers (to keep things simple, let’s not talk about the secret upper tiers): – Blue (basic, no real benefits) – Bronze – once you collect 300 tier points in your BA calendar year – you get to check-in in business class (despite the class you travel) and priority boarding.
– Silver – once you collect 600 tier points in your BA calendar year – check-in in business class, priority boarding, fast track, lounge access and an extra piece of luggage on any flight (for you and a guest, sweet). You also get pre-selection of seats, but not first rows, which is a Gold benefit. Differences between the tiers And how do you progress on those tiers? Well, it depends on the flights you take. Rule of thumb: a economy return flight within Europe will give you 20 tier points, where as a business class trip will give you 80 tier points.
- Destinations like Greece, Cyprus, Tenerife and Turkey give you double (e.g.160 tier points on business class ).
- A premium economy ticket to the US or the Middle East, for example, will give you 180 tier points, where as business class will give you 280 tier points.
- So you just need to do the math.
- With 2 premium economy tickets to the US and a couple European flights, you are silver.
Also worth noting that when you reach a tier, it is valid for the rest of your ‘calendar year’ if you are halfway through your year (now counted from your membership start date) and the following 12 months. And then you are welcomed into a very special club that speaks in code: people start asking you questions like ‘when does your year end?’.

Can I ask for an upgrade at the airport?
When are the best times to ask for a flight upgrade? – The key to purchasing an upgrade—either using miles or cash—is doing so in advance. The sooner, the better. Initially, passengers can contact their airline post-booking a flight to check for any paid upgrade availability.
The next best option is to ask at the check-in desk of your flight. If all else fails, don’t give up just yet! There are almost always passengers in business or first class who fail to make their flight. Therefore, before a flight starts boarding, you can check with a gate agent to see if this scenario is playing out on your flight.
And if so, tell them that you’re interested in paying for an upgrade. For a final try, if that also fails, you can ask the lead flight attendant or flight attendant at the boarding door. Bobby Laurie, a former flight attendant and travel expert, emphasizes that “you should ask prior to door closure, but don’t be surprised if they don’t move you until after you’re in the air if they’re going to grant your request.”

When should you ask for an upgrade at the airport?
Here’s how to score a paid upgrade, according to two former flight attendants. Published on February 23, 2023 Upgrades to business or first class are extremely coveted, especially on long-haul flights. And that’s why they’re, predictably, so hard to come by.
- So, can you simply ask for one and get it for free? No, not really — not even if it’s your honeymoon.
- But in some cases, you may be able to ask to pay for an upgrade, which you can do from booking till boarding.
- Jun xu/Getty Images On almost every flight, the passengers who get upgrades are either the ones who pay for them (whether in dollars or miles) in advance or frequent fliers with elite status who receive complimentary upgrades as part of their perks.
There are very few exceptions, so don’t expect to score a free upgrade by just asking. “Through the years I heard stories from people about how they got upgraded to business or first class based on their looks or how they were dressed, This simply never happened at the major airline where I worked,” Susan Fogwell, a former flight attendant of 22 years, told Travel + Leisure,
- If a flight attendant moved a passenger from one class to another, the flight attendant would not have a job for long.
- The difference in price is in the thousands, depending on the route.
- There is also a team of flight attendants on board who would be aware of the ‘free upgrade.’ So when someone tells a story about a so-called free upgrade, take it with a grain of salt.” But if you’re looking to buy an upgrade with miles or cash, you should do so as early in the process as possible.
Start by contacting your airline after booking to see if there are any paid upgrades available. If you’re out of luck there, you can try again at the check-in desk. If it’s another no, you still have a chance. On some flights, passengers who booked a business or first-class seat won’t make it on board, whether they miss their connection or cancel at the last minute.
You can chat with the gate agent just before boarding begins to see if a paid upgrade might be possible. Hinterhaus Productions/Getty Images But if that’s also a no-go, then you have one last option. “You should ask the lead flight attendant or the flight attendant at the boarding door,” said Bobby Laurie, a travel expert and former American Airlines flight attendant.
“You should ask prior to door closure, but don’t be surprised if they don’t move you until after you’re in the air if they’re going to grant your request.” Fogwell added that you’re more likely to score a (paid) upgrade to an economy-plus seat than you are to first or business class.
