Who is Andy Murray sponsored by now?
June 20, 2023
Andy Murray hasn’t raked in the kind of sponsorship money that his fellow big four members have, but his brand partnerships are nothing to be sniffed at, and here we look at who backs the iconic Scotsman. Murray sports an impressive list of commercial partners and brand/goodwill ambassador roles.
- He enjoys sponsorships from American Express, Castore, Head, Halo and WSB.
- Murray also works with the NHS, Unicef and the World Wildlife Fund.
- His kit sponsor is Castore but Murray notably doesn’t wear sponsored shoes and was spotted wearing his old Under Armour shoes at the Australian Open earlier this year.
Murray also uses a classic design of Head racket, choosing to play with their PT57A2 with some customisations. He uses the company’s Muster frame, although he has it strung 16 x 19 as opposed to the stock 18 x 20 string pattern typically used on the frame.
Together with his wife Kim, Andy Murray also owns Cromlix, a luxury country house hotel in Scotland with the star recently indicating that the couple will be out to take a more active role in the running. Kim has been taking the lead in revamping the hotel while Andy chases his dreams of another Grand Slam.
After buying the postcard image hotel in 2013, the Murrays left it in the hands of a management firm for ten years but with retirement drawing nearer for the former no 1 the couple assumed direct control of the venue in December of last year. “This is very much a family affair and I am delighted to be getting involved in overseeing this makeover, selecting wallpapers, toiletries, logos and everything in between, so that Cromlix becomes more reflective of our personal tastes and attitudes,” Kim Murray told The Scottish Sun.
- Murray has won 43 ATP Tour-level titles across his career contributing greatly to his total of more than $63 million won.
- He earned more than a million dollars per season every term between 2008 and 2017.
- Murray’s prize money peak came in 2016 when he won nine titles and bagged $16,349,701 as a reward ending the season as the top earner in a season that also saw him defend his Olympic games gold medal.
In that famous 2016 season, he came agonizingly close to Grand Slam glory in Melbourne and Paris before an emotional second Wimbledon title. Murray has not won an ATP Tour title since 2019 but has contested championship matches in both 2022 and 2023. The Scot spent in total 41 consecutive weeks as ATP world No 1, from 7 November 2016 to 20 August 2017.

How much does John McEnroe earn at Wimbledon?
Three-time Wimbledon winner rakes in a small fortune during a fortnight working at Wimbledon for the BBC and co-commentating on their standout matches on Centre Court John McEnroe is a staple of the BBC’s coverage of Wimbledon ( Image: PA) Tennis legend John McEnroe is by far the BBC’s highest-paid employee pro rata, the corporation’s annual report reveals. McEnroe, 64, is a staple of their Wimbledon coverage, co-commentating on the tennis tournament for British viewers since 2004.
- The American’s voice is now synonymous with how the BBC broadcasts the competition, and the New York native receives a small fortune these two weeks’ work.
- The BBC publishes salaries of its staff earning over £150,000, and McEnroe qualifies for that threshold.
- Their report reveals he gets between £205,000 and £209,000 from the corporation – for just two weeks of work.
At a touch over £100,000 per week, that is more than the average Premier League footballer earns across any given two-week period. These details also emerge after a controversial first week working on the BBC’s Wimbledon coverage for McEnroe. During a third round match between world number one Carlos Alcaraz and Nicolas Jarry, McEnroe’s work received criticism from a fellow professional.
- We don’t know Jarry, but we’ll get to know him,” the American said during the action, to which fellow commentator and current player John Millman was shocked by the lack of knowledge on display,
- The Australian took to social media, saying: “How a commentator can say ‘we don’t know Jarry, but we’ll get to know him’ is beyond ridiculous,” Millman tweeted.
“Eighty-seven million people play tennis worldwide, and this guy is the 28th best at it currently.” It is not the only time McEnroe has needed calling out during this year’s stint either. Presenter Clare Balding also had to keep him in check live on air,
John McEnroe earns huge money for his BBC role ( Image: AP) With Balding making light of the overcast conditions at SW19 on Monday with a cricket reference about it being weather that would see a cricket ball swing and punditry partner Tim Henman suggesting they would be ideal for seamers to bowl in, McEnroe took the conversation into the gutter.
“Are the swingers the ones who don’t throw it as hard ? Is that what swingers are? We have different definitions in the States,” McEnroe chimed. His fellow pundits saw the funny side, with laughter ensuing, but Balding was there to put him in his place.
We’re talking about something completely different, John,” the presenter said. “It’s not a channel for that sort of talk.” Earlier this summer, McEnroe sent Emma Raducanu, who was not fit to feature during the tournament due to injury, a warning about how people may start seeing her, “Emma doesn’t want to be a one-hit-wonder,” he said.
Whenever you have two or three surgeries, you have to be concerned.” However, in a separate interview, the American acknowledged that one win is better than none. “I’m sure if you ask her at the end of her career, would you rather have one major or none; if it turns out that way, she would rather win one,” McEnroe said, before embarking on this summer’s sojourn in Southwest London.

What major surgery has Andy Murray had?
Andy Murray and Hip Resurfacing – Another formerly top-ranked tennis star, Andy Murray, dealt with hip pain for a decade before undergoing arthroscopic surgery in 2018. This procedure was likely performed to address the cartilage in the joint, including the labrum.
- Unfortunately, the damage within the joint had likely progressed over the years, and his pain persisted after the surgery.
- Untreated injuries of the labrum can accelerate the progression of osteoarthritis.
- Murray chose to undergo another surgery in 2019, but this time, due to the degenerative changes in his hip joint, he opted for the Birmingham hip resurfacing (BHR).
This procedure is an alternative to the total hip replacement (THR) and consists of removing some of the damaged bone and adding a metal cap to the head of the femur and a thin metal cup to the acetabulum. This procedure preserves more of the patient’s bone and is typically indicated for younger, male athletes.

How is Andy Murray so good?
ATP: How Andy Murray still keeps up in today’s game INDIAN WELLS, CALIFORNIA – MARCH 13: Andy Murray of Great Britain in action against Jack Draper of Great Britain during the BNP Paribas Open on March 13, 2023 in Indian Wells, California. (Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images) What makes Andy Murray so good still at this age? Well, it combines skill, talent, and mental strength.
Murray has done very well at making use of his capabilities, as limited as they may be, to drive himself toward success. Injuries have slowed down the Brit’s career and even pushed him to the point of announcing retirement at the 2019 Australian Open. Since then, Murray has rehabilitated and worked to revive his career.
Since the start of the 2022 season, Murray from 134 to where he sits currently, 55th in the world, and he is looking to rise even further. Despite not being the same player he was in 2016, Murray has still been able to be successful to an extent. But how has he managed that? First, Murray wanted to be in optimal health.
- With the surgeries he has undergone in recent years, Murray’s comeback has been really tough and required a lot of work.
- His speed and movement are not the same, but he has still been able to produce a high level of tennis on the court coupled with his mental strength.
- As the number of young players increases on tour, Murray holds certain advantages which help him prevail against these up-and-coming players.
His experience, wisdom, and mental strength are all he needs. We have seen the truth in this over the last few months. Murray has been involved in a slew of long three-set matches, and he has come on top in the majority of them. The 35-year-old picked up his first straight-set victory in five months as he defeated Radu Albot 6-4 6-3 as he progresses into the round of 32 at the Indian Wells Masters.
- Murray has been nothing short of spectacular as he rises in the rankings yet again.
- The qualities that Murray expresses on the court are definitely something to take inspiration to.
- Even though he can be quite emotional, he possesses things that can determine whether or not he is victorious in a long three-set match.
Murray does not give up, he assesses his opponent’s strengths and weaknesses well, and he is able to maintain a good level of tennis throughout these long matches. Another attribute of Murray on the court is simply how all-around he is. His backhand and forehand are very solid, he has a good volley, his movement is sufficient, his serve can still do damage, and does well mixing in different shots.

Does Wimbledon make a profit?
Wimbledon makes profits despite refusing more than USD $100 million – Many might be surprised to know that the Wimbledon Championships on average generate a profit of anywhere between $55-60 million each year for the All England Club. It is believed that nearly 50-60% of Wimbledon’s revenues come from global broadcast rights, and in 2022, the total amounted to $246 million.
It has signed a 12-year, $500 million deal including other broadcasters in countries such as USA, India and Australia. Out of the total revenue amount of $440 million in 2022 as per the All England Club report, the other $194 million come from gate receipts, sponsorships and Going at a run-rate of $70 million per year, Wimbledon could have earned another $30-40 million easily by perhaps increasing their seating capacity of 15,000 or ticket prices.
Yet, exclusivity seems to be the name of the game for the Brits as remember, the All England Club at heart continues to be an exclusive, private members club. On the other hand, sponsorships are where is actually losing out the most in. On average, the Wimbledon Championships see 15 sponsors a year.
- However, it contributes to barely 15-20% of revenues each year.
- This appears to be a deliberate strategy by the organizers as they aim to control the way they organize the tournament by going for long-term partners who pay them lesser rather than corporates who pay them more but then back out after a year or two.
This year, Wimbledon could lose up to $75 million as per Forbes, although it is interesting to note that apart from Rolex, some brands such as Barclays and Perry are visible much more even though the execution has been smartly done.

- Mr Murray, who oversaw significant sales and profit growth while he was in charge of JB Hi-Fi, said he had mixed emotions about leaving the electronics retailer after spending 18 years at the business.

And this is a really exciting one,” he said. “I have a massive amount of respect for Solly and what he and Mark have achieved over the last 10 years, it’s an amazing business with amazing people.” Mr Murray will be paid a $2 million base salary in his new role at Premier Investments, well above his $1.35 million salary at JB Hi-Fi.
He will also receive 200,000 performance rights to shares as a once-off sign-on bonus, worth around $5.2 million at Premier’s current share price. Shares in JB Hi-Fi closed 4 per cent weaker at $45.61, as investors digested the shock exit. Premier shares rose 2.2 per cent to $26.47. JB Hi-Fi’s new CEO, Terry Smart. Mr Smart told The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald he was shocked to see Mr Murray leave and the company hadn’t seen it coming. He added that Mr Murray should have no problem swapping electronics for fashion. “It’s obviously proven that understands retail and understands business, so that’s the key to him moving on, and why he was sought after for the job,” Mr Smart said.
- Jamie Hannah, deputy head of investments at JB shareholder Van Eck, said the market was equally shocked by the news of Mr Murray’s departure.
- He also noted that Mr Murray had been particularly successful in blunting the threat posed by online retailers to traditional operators in the market.
- Has proven that an existing store with a lot of retail outlets can compete with a lot of the online retailers and actually grow profits,” he said.
Meanwhile, Blue Ocean Equities analyst Phil Pepe told clients Mr Murray’s appointment was an “excellent” choice for Premier, and the retail veteran would comfortably fit in to Mr McInnes’ job. “When Premier announced Mark McInnes’ resignation, it was left with some very large shoes to fill.
- In our opinion, those shoes have been filled by a CEO with an excellent track record in Australian retail,” he said.
- JB Hi-Fi has been a major beneficiary of the coronavirus pandemic as shoppers have spent big on home office goods and general electronics.
- The company released a third-quarter trading update on Wednesday, showing sales have continued to boom into the new year.

Unfortunately, the damage within the joint had likely progressed over the years, and his pain persisted after the surgery. Untreated injuries of the labrum can accelerate the progression of osteoarthritis. Murray chose to undergo another surgery in 2019, but this time, due to the degenerative changes in his hip joint, he opted for the Birmingham hip resurfacing (BHR).
This procedure is an alternative to the total hip replacement (THR) and consists of removing some of the damaged bone and adding a metal cap to the head of the femur and a thin metal cup to the acetabulum. This procedure preserves more of the patient’s bone and is typically indicated for younger, male athletes.
