Cost of a Belly Button Piercing – The cost of your belly button piercing will vary depending on the studio you go to, your geographic location, your piercer’s experience, and how complicated your piercing is. On average, however, you can expect a belly button piercing to run between $30 and $75.
- Of course, this baseline price either includes a very basic jewelry option or none at all.
- In many cases, you’ll have to also pay for the cost of the jewelry, which varies depending on the material and style.
- Of course, on top of this price, you’ll want to be sure to tip your piercer for the service.
- In my studio, we usually charge 40 euros with a basic titanium internal threaded piercing,” says Claudia Valentini, a Barcelona-based body piercer.
“If the customer chooses another option, we charge the jewelry.”
How painful is a belly piercing?
Belly button piercing pain level – Belly button piercings are considered the second least painful piercings after ear piercings. That’s because the thick tissue left behind from when your umbilical cord was removed is flesh and not very nerve dense. You may feel a lot of pressure when the needle goes through because the tissue is hard to poke through, but the pain goes away quickly.
Bellybutton (Navel) For ages 16 and up. Bellybutton or Navel piercings are the first in what we like to call a big kid piercing. These piercings take even more care than a cartilage piercing with longer heal times but are a must have for the trendy teen.
According to Niki, most people rate navel piercings as a four or five out of 10 on the pain scale. Pain is, of course, subjective and it really does depend on how well trained your piercer is.
Are belly piercings worth it?
What Are the Risks Associated With Belly Button Piercings? – Even if you believe that your belly button is the ideal candidate for a snazzy new piece of jewelry, you should know that some health risks come hand-in-hand with getting this type of body piercing. These risks include:
Allergic reactions to the jewelry Excessive bleeding Jewelry rejection or migration (migration is when the piercing moves internally to a slightly different spot, and rejection is when your body starts to push the jewelry out and you see more and more of the barbell) Bacterial infections Permanent scarring (this can happen if you don’t bother to remove the jewelry after your body has decided to reject it)
You can minimize these risks by finding a reputable piercer and caring for your piercing appropriately during the healing process (discussed in the next couple of sections).
minors – Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian and must provide identification and proof of age and relationship to the guardian in order to be pierced or have jewelry inserted into a piercing. Acceptable identification and proof of age and relationship includes the following:
Any of the forms of acceptable identification listed above from both parent and minor on which either last names or addresses match. If the parent has a different last name and address than the minor, then legal documentation (birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce papers, adoption papers, etc.) must be provided to verify the relationship. If the legal guardian is not the parent, then legal documentation (adoption papers, power of attorney giving full guardianship without limitations, etc.) must be provided to verify the guardian’s legal right to sign for the minor. A school issued photo ID or yearbook picture accompanied by a birth certificate is acceptable identification for minors younger than driving age.
Belly Piercing: – Belly button piercings can take up to a year to heal completely. It’s best to wait at least two weeks before swimming and avoid submerging the piercing in water for an extended period. If you must swim, cover the piercing with a waterproof bandage or sealant.
Can I touch my belly piercing?
What Does a Healing Belly Piercing Look Like? – A healing belly piercing should be pink and healthy, without any signs of redness, swelling, discharge, or pain. The area around the piercing may be slightly tender, but this should subside as the piercing continues to heal.
If you notice any unusual symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention. In conclusion, proper aftercare and the use of hypoallergenic jewelry, such as G23 titanium and internally threaded jewelry, can help to speed up the healing process of a belly button piercing. Remember to clean the piercing regularly, avoid touching it with dirty hands, and be patient while it fully heals.

Where is the least painful piercing?
Helix Piercing Because the cartilage is thinner on the upper ear, helix piercings tend to be the least painful cartilage piercing. They measure around a 4-5/10 on the pain scale and take around 3-6 months to fully heal.
Teen Wants to Pierce Navel If your daughter won’t agree to getting a belly button piercing under safe medical conditions, I would refuse to allow it to be done. My 14-year-old daughter wants her belly-button pieced. I said no and now she won’t talk to me. I’ve been getting the silent treatment for two months.
- I’m hurt, but I don’t want her body pierced everywhere.
- Should I give in? Allowing your daughter to pierce her navel does not mean that she will soon be “pierced everywhere.” Remember that, when you were a teen, it was not fashionable to get any other body parts pierced except your ears.
- There are serious concerns regarding the safety and health hazards involved in body piercing, especially certain areas of the ear and tongue.
If your daughter agrees to have her navel pierced under the hygienic conditions insisted upon by her doctor, and she understands what she must do to prevent that area from becoming infected, you should give her permission to pierce her navel. Allowing her to pierce her navel does not mean that you are a permissive parent or that you gave in – or will give in – in the future because she stopped talking to you.
It means that you gave careful consideration to a wish of hers and agreed to grant it after much thought and discussion with her regarding her responsibility in the matter. If she doesn’t agree to have her navel pierced under safe medical conditions, I would refuse to allow it to be done. Who’s Getting Their Belly Buttons Pierced? – Oddly enough not only has the art moved from strictly slim, toned, model like women with flat tummies but people of every gender, form, background, and size seem to be enjoying the art of getting their belly button pierced.
While the most popular age group for belly button piercing is between the ages of 16-24, some places claim to have pierced the navels of girls as young as 10. While most states have laws that would require a parent’s signature and approval for something like this, according to piercers it does happen.
Many piercing parlors have seen an increase in belly button piercing in women over the age of 30 also. Some think it is because of the more accepted viewpoint on the art itself; while others think it’s a matter of generations who simply are more attuned to being pierced so it’s no big deal anymore for most.
Can you get your nose pierced at 11?
Minors | Requirements for Piercing Minors
- If you are under 18 the parent or legal guardian must accompany the minor for the entire procedure.
- A government issued photo ID will be needed from both the minor and the parent or legal guardian. This can be a state-issued ID card, learner’s permit, driver’s license, passport, or military ID.
- A government issued ID is required for everything except ear lobes. For ear lobe piercings, you can present a birth certificate for anyone between the ages of 5 – 15.
- A school-issued ID card is not acceptable.
- If the parent’s last name or address is different from the minors a copy of the minor’s birth certificate will also be needed.
- If the minor is accompanied by a legal guardian we require a copy of the guardianship documents and a copy of the minor’s birth certificate.
- Until COVID is fully gone, we are no longer offering lip or tongue piercings for the time being, but this will most likely resume in the future.
-
- As a teenager your body is still growing. For example, due to growth, an industrial piercing given at age 14 will most likely migrate by age 21 into a position that is not representative of a good piercing. You will most likely be unhappy with it at this point.
- Certain piercings can take months to heal and you absolutely must follow the aftercare instructions without fail, including not touching or snagging the piercing. A certain level of maturity is necessary to follow thru with proper aftercare. Lack of proper aftercare can result in a poorly healed piercing and no one wants that, especially us.
- Are there places that ignore these age limits? Yes there are, they do so because they lack experience and training, or they are more interested in your money than the consequences of what they are doing.

Does getting a belly button piercing look good? – Yes, because it draws the eye in – AKA it makes you look leaner. It’s simple science: the eye is drawn to the piercing so your stomach automatically looks flatter. Trust me, I’ve taken it out many a time, wondering if I should get rid, then realise my food baby is way smaller (and prettily decorated) when I’ve got it in.
3. Your size doesn’t matter as much as your shape – It’s a common misconception that those who are more slender are more suitable for navel piercings than those who are curvy. In fact, the shape of your navel area is more important than your size. For example, those whose navel areas curve inward when they sit are likely unsuitable for a standard placement of a navel piercing no matter the size of their belly.
Those who have an outie belly button shouldn’t get their navel pierced. Unfortunately, this belly button shape is unsuitable for the navel piercing. Furthermore, if you have scar tissue around the navel, either from surgery or otherwise, you may not be able to get your navel pierced. Your piercer may be able to work around it, but scar tissue, including that under the skin, is typically not suitable for piercing.
When you go to get your navel pierced, go to the studio with an open mind. It may not be safe to pierce you in the location that you wanted, but an experienced piercer will be able to take a close look at your anatomy to let you know which location is suitable.
Can you workout with belly piercing?
Can I work out if I just got my bellybutton pierced? – It is not recommended that you work out immediately after you get your belly button pierced. You should wait for at least a few days, and perhaps much longer before you resume any of your usual workout routines.
- The reasons for this are many.
- Most importantly, after you have had a piercing, your body is particularly vulnerable.
- Think of it this way, you just got your skin stabbed with a huge needle and attached a hunk of metal.
- As small as a belly button piercing is, it is still a wound, and it would have still caused quite a bit of stress to your body.
For this reason it is advisable to take it easy for a few days following the piercing.
As well as the fact that your body has gone through an ordeal, it is also advisable to avoid getting your piercing excessively sweaty and gross, especially in those crucial first few weeks. In fact, it can take months for your belly button to heal properly, and for the whole of the healing process you need to take extreme care to make sure that it is kept totally, Exercising, of course, causes sweat, and if you do not shower immediately, that sweat stays on your body for a long time, becoming a breeding ground for bacteria that has the potential to infect the site of your piercing.
As well as this, exercising involves lots of movement, and often lots of stretching and bending. Partner this with the friction of your clothes on the piercing and you could have a recipe for disaster. In those early days of having a piercing, it is important not to move it around too much, so that it has a chance to heal properly.
- It is also very sore, and any rubbing of the area can be especially painful.
- It remains sensitive and prone to bleeding for a long while afterwards, and so it is sensible to avoid strenuous exercise for a few weeks.
- Gently ease yourself back into exercise after your piercing, listening to your body the whole time.
You can exercise after the initial few days is over, but be sensible about it, and avoid excessive friction.
Why do girl pierce their belly?
Reasons People Get Belly Button Piercings – People get pierced for a variety of reasons ranging from self-expression to fashion, wanting to fit into a subculture to simple ornamentation, and more. In a recent study on how navel piercings affect body image and self-perception in women, 194 women were asked why they decided to get a belly button piercing.
Rebelliousness Independence Control over body Need for uniqueness Positive attention from peers Attractiveness of piercing Hide a flaw
While this survey only represents women, these motivators can be pretty universal and apply to all genders. What’s interesting to note is that many of the motivators relate to body image and body autonomy. Another interesting data point from the survey is the fact that after getting their belly button pierced, women felt:
More like their selves More in control of their bodies and actions More satisfied with the shape of their bodies More satisfied with the size of their bodies More satisfied with the site of their stomachs More attractive to others More successful More comfortable in their bodies More comfortable when others saw their bodies
Will a belly piercing leave a scar?
I Re-Pierced My Belly Button For Summer — & Here’s How It Went When a closes, it often leaves a scar. This is exponentially more likely if you don’t go to a professional and you pierce yourself or let a friend stick you with a needle. In those cases, you can expect an infection, scar, or a if and when the hole closes up.
- For example, when Sincere Williams was in high school, she let her best friend belly button — a poor decision that has since left her with a crooked hole and scarring where it closed.
- Now, as an adult, Williams finds herself missing the “glam” of her vintage belly button charm and wants to bring it back this summer, but needs the help of a trained professional to pierce around the scar tissue.
Advertisement In the latest episode of Refinery29’s YouTube series Macro Beauty, Williams visits, a licensed piercing studio in Marina Del Rey, California, where she books an appointment with the brand’s seasoned navel piercer, Luci Doll. “Belly button piercings have been popular since the ’90s — since the — and they really haven’t gone out of style,” Doll explains during Williams’ consult.
“They’re still a very popular piercing that I do all the time.” For Williams’ case specifically, because she’s being re -pierced, the process is a bit trickier. “When we have a scar from a previous piercing, especially with a belly button, it can be pretty significant,” Doll explains. “In this case, the fistula of the scar is pretty long, so unfortunately we can’t pierce through it because the skin will have the heal a brand-new fistula.
Luckily, the scar is slightly off-center, which makes it pretty easy to get around it.” Doll marks the skin where she’ll pierce with a sterile marker then preps the soft tissue with Iodine. “I have Sincere take a nice deep breath in, as soon as she exhales, that’s when the piercing happens,” Doll narrates.
- Once we are through, I transfer the jewelry through the piercing and attach the top.
- Once the jewelry is in place, I clean off the excess Iodine and marker, and she is set to go.” For the aftercare, Doll tells Willams to apply a sterile saline solution to the piercing 1-2 times a day.
- The belly button is a soft tissue, but it’s a high movement area, so it usually takes about six months to fully heal,” she explains before showing Williams her re-pierced belly button.
“It’s so cute,” Williams exclaims, admiring the new opal charm that sits level in her navel. “And it’s straight; I’m really happy that you can’t see my previous scar. I can’t wait to go to the beach and show my friends.” : I Re-Pierced My Belly Button For Summer — & Here’s How It Went
What DOESN’T determine the shape of your belly button – Let’s talk about what belly button shapes aren’t:
They aren’t the result of the way a doctor cut or clamped the umbilical cord. They also aren’t the result of the way your parents cared for the little umbilical cord left over after you were born. In his book, Dr. Mohamed Fahmy calls the umbilical cord an “anatomical wild card.”
Just when you think you’ve heard it all, some people out there believe they can predict your life expectancy or tell things about your personality based on your belly button. It doesn’t take a lot of Googling to know this isn’t true (although it is very, very funny).
Instead of reviewing your belly button to consider your potential life span, we encourage you to consider other, more scientific-based factors such as family history, chronic conditions, and lifestyle habits. Pregnancy can cause the uterus to place extra pressure on the belly button. Because a belly button is essentially a weak point in the abdomen, the extra pressure could cause an “innie” belly button to become an “outie.” However, this occurrence usually reverts after a woman gives birth.
Some women do notice their belly button changes shape after pregnancy. Typically, the belly button will appear “shorter” or less vertical, according to one 2010 article, Also, the belly button may appear wider or more horizontal. Several plastic surgery approaches exist that can help you achieve a more aesthetically pleasing belly button.
- When a surgeon revises your current belly button, they call the surgery an umbilicoplasty,
- When they perform surgery to create a new belly button (if you don’t have one due to surgery at birth or later in life), they call this procedure a neoumbilicoplasty.
- Doctors can perform this procedure under local or general anesthesia.
(Local is when you’re not asleep, general is when you are). A doctor should carefully review your goals with you and explain how your belly button may change in size, shape, or location following surgery. A belly button piercing actually pierces the skin directly above the belly button, making the name of this type of piercing slightly misleading.
With this in mind, there isn’t a certain belly button type that can or can’t have a piercing. As long as you have skin above your belly button (and we’re pretty sure you do), an experienced piercer should be able to pierce the belly button. This isn’t to say there shouldn’t be some caution involved with belly button piercings.
You’ll want an experienced piercer who knows how to stay away from key nerves and blood vessels that are around your belly button. You’ll also want to avoid someone who uses a piercing gun, as they can’t be as precise as a person who uses a needle. In addition, the needle, and the area being pierced must be properly sterilized,
- It’s worth noting that an improperly placed piercing can put too much pressure on the belly button, possibly turning an innie into an outie.
- Be sure to discuss this concern with your piercer.
- Belly buttons are naturally different and can be round, wide, deep, or many other variations.
- If you don’t like the way yours looks, there are surgical procedures that can help.
However, it’s completely normal to have variation in what your naval looks like. Enjoy how your belly button is a unique aspect of you that you may not have taken the time to appreciate before.

Can a 10 year old get a helix piercing?
Consent and Other Considerations – Once a child reaches age 5, he or she is usually able to understand giving consent to the procedure and the after-care commitment of getting a piercing, Goode says, however she recommends waiting until a child is about 8 or 9 years old for ear piercings.
- At this stage in life, she says, the changes in a person’s body aren’t as rapid and there’s less of a chance that a piercing will move around on the earlobe — a situation she often has to fix.
- For older children who might be interested in more advanced piercings, it’s important to check your child’s school policy on visible piercings, especially if they participate in sports.
Goode suggests waiting until at least age 10 for a second earlobe piercing; 13 for a cartilage piercing; age 14 for nostrils, lips and navels; age 15 for a tragus; and 17 or 18 for an industrial piercing. These piercings are “a bit more intense on the pain scale,” she says, and they take longer to heal.
Is there a minimum age for piercing? There is no minimum age for most body piercings but performing genital or nipple piercing on someone under the age of 16 could be considered an offence. In order to be able to carry out the piercing procedure a licence is required. Many local authorities set an age limit of 16 years old as a condition of the licence.
Most local councils keep registers of approved piercers who have passed hygiene and safety standards and who are regularly inspected by health and safety officers. A copy of this licence must be displayed in a prominent place on the premises. See the link in Related Information to find your local authority.

Nostril Piercing Prices – When you get your nostril pierced, you’ll probably be fitted with a starter stud that has enough room to accommodate swelling or a larger hoop. Depending on the piercer, they might suggest a style, or you might be able to choose the one that you want.

I actually got them done in 2 different places. Ear Lobe I got it done for 10 dollars only on both sides. They used a gun on me. I clean them with rubbing alcohol, make sure to stay consistent because I got infected. The second piercing is helix but only on one side of the ear. Wasn’t painful at all just a tear using a needle and that’s about it. After that, you get a throbbing sensation for like one day only. I got the helix done for 20 dollars. BE SURE TO GET YOUR HELIX PIERCING DONE BY A NEEDLE NOT A GUN. The area is very sensitive and the needle is the best choice. Many of the places use a gun so I recommend if they use a gun don’t go there. Even if it’s cheaper. If they recommend a lotion or some kind of ointment to buy for your newly pierced ears, I don’t think it’s really necessary. Just buy some sea salt and stir it in water then place your ear in the water for approximately 10-15 mins. Just clean your ear 2x a time to avoid any infection. This area can get infected easily.

Got a third hole in each earlobe from Purity Body Arts in New Orleans. Each piercing was $30 plus the price of jewelry (two studs: a 14 carat gold stud and an opal set 14 carat gold setting). Pristine setting, excellent quality control. Monique is the nicest piercer ever. But that place is $$$

My ear actually bled onto my shirt and it ended up ripping out the front hole after the 6 month healing time. But the rip didn’t hurt and the piercing didn’t hurt. I want to get it redone.

Got it done on Friday the 13th so it was like buy one piercing get the other free (aka both nipples for the price of one $40). Worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I actually passed out. The more stressed out you are, the worse it will hurt bc the adrenaline pumping. Try to relax yourself. They’re all healed up now and I absolutely love them! Worth it.

I got 3 dermals underneath my left collarbone, the first two were fine, just a lot of pressure but the third hurt a lot because it pushed against my collarbone. It was fast, maybe 15 min but everything was sterilized. I love them

I was nervous because who wants a 14 guage needle going through your skin? Hollow tube hurt so much that the pain was terrible. Definitely worth it though.

Piercing barely hurt, just pinched a bit, but then I almost fainted? lol. Had some healing complications involving lip growing over the backs, but that stopped once they completely healed almost a year later. Also developed what seems like a permanent boil / skin infection on left side. Tried different cleaning methods, nothing works. I took antibiotics for an illness, that’s the only time it ever vanished, then re-emerged with a vengeance once antibiotics left my system.

Didn’t hurt, only thing was the surprise of the needle because I hate them. Didn’t heal very fast because my boyfriend liked to play with it with his tongue which kept causing infections. But it healed in about 7 months. I was 15 and my friend was there recording it.

The part that freaked me out the most was the clamp. I was prepared for the pain from the needle just didn’t factor in that there would a clamp pinching my skin. But I got over that quick when the needle pierced through, it was very painful, but didn’t last too long. The next part, when she pulled the jewelry through the hole, I wouldn’t exactly call painful just felt really weird. I bled a lot which was another thing I wasn’t prepared for, so look out for that, but that doesn’t happen to all people. Make sure you get aftercare instructions because I found those very helpful especially in keeping myself calm about it not being infected. The piercing so far has acted pretty normal, it’s had it ups and downs and is still healing, which is something I knew going in that it has the longest healing period. If you get this piercing done I suggest you be vigilant about keeping up with cleaning it everyday because it’s ver susceptible to infection.

Did it myself. Screw you dummies paying top price for a piercing. Just buy a kit on ebay. It’ll save you hundreds. Just know your precautions.

I got my nose pierced with a small gemstone titanium jewelry at Krazy kats last August. The piercer was excellent and it didn’t really hurt, only bled for a few minutes. She gave me great aftercare instruction. I got it for more than a year ago and have changed the jewelries a couple of times since then.

The clamp was annoying so it took away concentration of the tiny sting of the needle. I had just turned 15 at the the time and I’ve had it for almost a year and it has healed fast and never given me any trouble. The only pain was when the piercer threaded the jewelry through. I plan to get dual microdermals in my hips next 😜😜

Who’s Getting Their Belly Buttons Pierced? – Oddly enough not only has the art moved from strictly slim, toned, model like women with flat tummies but people of every gender, form, background, and size seem to be enjoying the art of getting their belly button pierced.
- While the most popular age group for belly button piercing is between the ages of 16-24, some places claim to have pierced the navels of girls as young as 10.
- While most states have laws that would require a parent’s signature and approval for something like this, according to piercers it does happen.
Many piercing parlors have seen an increase in belly button piercing in women over the age of 30 also. Some think it is because of the more accepted viewpoint on the art itself; while others think it’s a matter of generations who simply are more attuned to being pierced so it’s no big deal anymore for most.
