Nunez, who arrived at the club for £85million in June 2022, wore 27 during his debut campaign at Anfield. The 24-year-old Uruguayan has been given a huge show of faith by manager Jurgen Klopp as he will follow the likes of Roberto Firmino, Fernando Torres and Robbie Fowler in wearing the iconic No 9.
- He opted to take the vacant jersey following the departure of Firmino, who left Liverpool after his contract expired and joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli on a free transfer.

How many golden boots does Salah have?
Chris Wright, Toe Poke writer May 31, 2023, 11:00 AM
Coveted by attacking players for over three decades, the Premier League Golden Boot award has been presented to the highest goal scorer in the English top flight at the end of each campaign since 1992-93, but no one has won it as emphatically as Manchester City ‘s Erling Haaland,
- Stream on ESPN+: LaLiga, Bundesliga, more (U.S.) Haaland’s 36-goal haul this season is the highest total ever reached in the Premier League, surpassing the previous record of 34 set by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole in the mid-1990s, when teams played 42 games instead of 38.
- The lowest Golden Boot-winning goal tally is 18, the total in each of the two consecutive seasons that the award was shared between three players (1997-98, 1998-99.) Thierry Henry has claimed more Golden Boot awards than any other player, with the Arsenal legend winning four times in the space of five seasons (2001-02, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06.) Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals, is the only other player to have won three consecutive Golden Boots (1994-95, 1995-96, 1996-97).
Shearer, Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah are the players to have won three times overall – though two of Salah’s awards were shared (2018-19, 2021-22). As for clubs, Liverpool players have won the Golden Boot on more occasions (seven) than any other Premier League side with Michael Owen, Luis Suarez, Salah and Sadio Mane all sharing the spoils between them.
- In all, there have been 26 different players to win the Golden Boot in the 31 years of the Premier League’s existence.
- Here’s how each of those campaigns rank, from least impressive to best.
- Note: The first three Golden Boots (1992-93, 1993-94, 1994-95) were awarded for 42-game seasons.
- The Premier League was then reduced from 22 teams to 20 from 1995-96 onwards.
All Golden Boots thereafter were awarded for 38-game seasons.
Which team has Salah scored most against?
Mohamed Salah scored twice in Liverpool’s 7-0 massacre of Manchester United on Sunday to become the Reds’ all-time leading goal-scorer in the Premier League. Salah put his team 4-0 up midway through the second half, lashing in off the underside of the crossbar, and also bagged the six goal in the final ten minutes, pouncing on a loose ball inside the area.
- He matched, and then surpassed, Robbie Fowler at the top of the club’s Premier League goal charts with his 128th and 129th strikes.

Salah has now scored more goals against the Red Devils (12) than he has against any other opponent, averaging a goal every game. Manchester City is his joint-second favorite opponent (10 goals), though he’s faced Pep Guardiola’s side much more often (18 times). Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has now scored 12 goals against Manchester United (Image: Photo by Andrew Powell/Liverpool FC via Getty Images) Manchester City is level with Tottenham Hotspur, with the best of Salah’s 10 goals against the Lilywhites no doubt his incredible solo effort in a 2-2 draw in his first season.
Then comes the first team outside the ‘big six’ in West Ham United (nine goals in 11 matches) and a current Championship side in Watford (nine goals in eight matches). The Hornets have been absent from two of Salah’s six Premier League seasons, but the winger has simply been devastating in their match-ups, firing four past them at Anfield in his first season and scoring one of his finest Liverpool goals in a 5-0 Vicarage Road drubbing last term.

Who is No 10 for Liverpool?

“I know how important the No.10 is in football,” the World Cup winner stated. “I had the possibility to take the No.8 as well, which is a big number for this club because of Gerrard, of course. But I decided for No.10 because I used it a lot of times in Argentina, in Brighton, U23s national team as well.
- It’s a number that I really like and that’s why I chose it.” The previous incumbent, Mane, achieved legendary status at the club as its No.10.
- The Senegal forward was initially Liverpool’s No.19 but switched in the summer of 2018, two years after joining.
- He would duly be a driving force behind the collection of the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Emirates FA Cup and Carabao Cup trophies prior to his departure for Bayern Munich four years later.
Mane inherited the jersey from Coutinho, who wore it with distinction during his five years at Anfield. The Brazilian scored 54 times in 201 appearances after taking over the No.10 from Cole, who left Anfield in the same month Coutinho arrived – January 2013.
- Voronin occupied the No.10 before Cole and the Ukrainian scored six goals – including an important Champions League qualifier winner against Toulouse – in 40 appearances after signing in the summer of 2007.
- The jersey had previously been worn by a Champions League winner, Garcia, whose name is still sung by Liverpool fans today after his telling contribution during a three-year stay that started in August 2004.
Garcia had taken the No.10 following the departure of, in that same close-season, Owen: an Academy graduate who quickly developed into a global superstar and remains the club’s only winner of the Ballon d’Or. Owen assumed the shirt following his heroics for England at the 1998 World Cup.
It had remained unattached during the 1997-98 season after Barnes’ stellar decade at Anfield had concluded in August 1997. An icon widely regarded as one of the club’s greatest ever players, Barnes’ feats in the jersey after his arrival from Watford in the summer of 1987 meant he was already synonymous with the No.10 before allotted Premier League squad numbers were formally introduced in 1993-94.
Barnes, now an official club ambassador who was recently honoured with a mural close to Anfield, won two league titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup while scoring 108 times in 407 games for the Reds.

Who is 17 in Liverpool?
Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has left his No.67 shirt for a new squad number ahead of the new season. The change to a lower number could signify a more prominent role for Elliott in Jurgen Klopp ‘s squad for the 2022/23 campaign. Having worn the No.67 shirt since his arrival three years ago, Elliott has now been confirmed as Liverpool’s new No.19. On making the change, Elliott explained the pleasure of donning a number that has been worn by a Liverpool ‘great’ and moving down the order following his time in the No.67. “Obviously the number became available, some great players have worn it in the past – the likes of Sadio and the list goes on,” Elliott told the club’s official website,
- I think it was an opportunity to get down the ranks in terms of the numbers, and for me personally it’s a wonderful number.
- I remember having a Sadio shirt with the number 19 on it as a kid.
- So to be able to wear it after him, it’s a great pleasure.
- At the end of the day, a number is just a number, but it’s just nice to have a lower number.
I think it’s a great opportunity going into another season. “So, hopefully, I can prove to myself and prove to everyone that I’m able to have these kind of numbers and able to perform under this kind of pressure, because it comes with it.” Two years ago, fellow midfield youngster Curtis Jones picked up the No.17 shirt, which was previously worn by Ragnar Klavan, Jones has since gone on to establish himself as an important member of Liverpool’s midfield, something Elliott will be hoping to replicate in 2022/23.
