- As we are leaving 3 kids with grand parents for a week we are limited to one week away really.

We went to the Maldives for 1 week for our honeymoon, Las Vegas for 6 days etc. It depends on how you handle jet lag and how much you want to go! Re: St lucia.1 week not long enough? 3 years ago Thanks for the replies. We have never really travelled outside the main ‘brits abroad’ holidays so have never really had to deal/cope with jet leg. Re: St lucia.1 week not long enough? 3 years ago We did 7 nights in for our honeymoon, granted we were traveling from the states. We stayed near Soufriere so we could hit many of the big attractions in one day. Did 3 days of hikes, trails, volcano etc, 3 beach/snorkel days, and the first night upon arrival was just a day at our villa/pool (where every day ended up at some point.
Plenty of time for you to have a wonderful honeymoon, but I would recommend staying near Soufriere so you don’t have to spend time traveling all around the island to get to where you want to be. Clarification:The roads are very windy and it takes a long time by to get around the island, that is why I say stay near Soufriere (as that is where the pitons, volcano, waterfalls, etc are).
You can do water taxis but they are expensive and also take time. Staying near Soufriere will mean a 5-15 minute cab ride to almost anywhere you would want to go. Re: St lucia.1 week not long enough? 3 years ago Hi, I personally always do a minimum of 2 weeks because of the length and cost of the from the uk.
But if you only have one week go for it. is one of the better Caribbean Islands in that regards because there are daily non stop The only plausible nearer alternative for you is somewhere in Europe, and there you are constrained by seasons. Only you can make that judgement.
- I would smile nicely at the grand parents and try and stretch it to 9/10 days but failing that you can’t beat St Lucia for a honeymoon STEVE Edited: 3 years ago Level Contributor 10,154 posts 105 reviews 113 helpful votes 7.
- Re: St lucia.1 week not long enough? 3 years ago You don’t need to worry about jet leg heading out to the Caribbean – it’s on the way back that it will get you, and you might be able to take a couple of days off once you get home to get over that? Depending on the time of year, some islands (and I’d include and Grenada in these) can be quite wet during some months, and you could potentially end up with a week of less than brilliant days – liquid sunshine is lovely too, but perhaps not the picture you’ll have in mind.
And of course there are some stunning European/Mediterranean destinations for the warmer months. I’d also make sure you factor in transfer time – many resorts are a long way from the airport and this can eat into precious time when you have fewer days.
I would agree with Steve though – breaking the 7 day barrier really is worth it if you can, and can often give you better options – outbound on a Thursday, back on a Sunday or similar gives the illusion of being away for far longer somehow. Re: St lucia.1 week not long enough? 3 years ago We have guests (many on here hneymoon and anniversaries) that stay anywhere from 3 nights to a month in the Soufriere area, All seem to have a great time. But the feedback us always, “I wish I could have stayed longer to relax mire and do more things.” Things are slower here but time just flies by at a rate that’s hard to describe, But whatever time you have, you can certainly have a great time and really have a special honeymoon on the island.
You just have to be realistic about the time you have, what you want to do and where you should stay and visit, and think through your planning. For example, we had some guests staying with us a few weeks back for a four night honeymoon who once got here told us that they wanted to climb the Petite Piton, do some big hikes in the rain forest, snorkel a number of the local beaches, drive up to Rodney Bay, do some zip lines, get massages, visit the baths, etc, As I told my wife, “that ain’t going to happen.” which of course it didn’t, lol.
A week trip though is plenty of time to stay in one area and get to have a very enjoyable and relaxing experience. Most guests who come here in my experience stay an average of 5 to 7 nights. Level Contributor 399 posts 9. Re: St lucia.1 week not long enough? 3 years ago Hey discover! Thanks so much for considering our island as a spot for your honeymoon!! yay!! we are the #1 honeymoon destination in the world!!! Anyway, Its long ride to get here.
And there may be some exciting places to go near where you are staying in europe. But since your eyes are on, im sure you are seriously interested in coming here for your honeymoon vacation. Its totally possible to make a week long stay here work for you.seven days is plenty of time.if you plan right.
When are you planning to come to St.lucia (just the month)? Also when you think about your perfect honeymoon in St.lucia, what is it that you imagine you doing during you time here.?
- Answers to these questions would really help in getting you to maximize your 7 day honeymoon here so that it delivers for you / so that you have an awesome time here, that’s perfect with you and your partner doing only the stuff that you’ll love and make you happy.
- Looking forward to your reply so we can help you make the most out of your stay here!

For what it’s worth,in January 2018 myself and my partner went to Antigua for 7 nights and absolutely loved it. The one thing we both said was it would have been nice to have a couple more days.
- This January we spent 7 days in followed by 7 sailing around the Caribbean where we also visited,
- With all this in mind we chose to re-visit St Lucia for 10 nights next January.
- We just didn’t want that “if only” feeling again.
- If you are really stuck with just the 7 nights then I would very seriously consider Barbados as an option.it is so easy to get around, very good (main) roads, good local transport and easy enough to navigate on your own if you decide to hire a for a couple of days,as we did.
We can’t compare this to St Lucia,as we haven’t been yet but from what we have read driving and getting around are much more challenging. Because of this we opted for 10 days so we can get a local driver for a day, have a couple of lazy beach days then look at another full day out followed by more down time.
- Whatever you decide I’m sure you will have a wonderful honeymoon.
- Hope this helps.

The Saint Lucia Island (UK: /sənt luːˈsiːə, -ˈluːʃə/) is a splendid country with rich culture, stunning natural beauty, and welcoming locals. Is St Lucia cheaper than Jamaica?
St. Lucia Vs Jamaica: Final Verdict – Honestly, you should try to visit both of these destinations at some point. St. Lucia and Jamaica are beautiful islands with stunning beaches, vibrant cultures, and endless activities. However, you will find that Jamaica will be more cost-friendly, have more to do, and have better flight options.
Why is St Lucia so popular?
A tourism shift – St. Lucia usually draws what locals call the “sea, sand and sun” tourist: those looking for not much more than a gorgeous beach from which to admire the breathtaking scenery. For decades, the island’s culture was just an afterthought.
An all-inclusive resort might ask local dancers and musicians to perform or invite artisans to sell their crafts or prepare a “Creole Cuisine” night, but the focus was on exposing the guest to a somewhat diluted version of St. Lucian culture instead of inviting visitors to get out and experience the community firsthand.
It was a trend that local business owners, with mounting cynicism, noticed. A holistic approach to tourism that combines both the island’s environmental wonders and Creole culture seemed to be the only solution, and these days, a new tourism minister is leading the charge.
Ernest Hilaire, 54, appointed minister for tourism, investment, creative industries, culture and information in August 2021, thinks that the tourism industry has to be redesigned with the St. Lucian people at the center. “We believe more St Lucians should participate in the industry and own it,” Dr. Hilaire said.
“The notion that so much of our tourism industry is not actually owned by locals but by foreign interests is not very encouraging for us.” Image The chef Orlando Satchell of Orlando’s Restaurant & Bar in Soufrière shops at a market, also in Soufrière, for the Caribbean meals he offers at his restaurant.
Credit. Tony Cenicola/The New York Times The focus under his leadership is community tourism: authentic local experiences that showcase the attractions, cuisine, traditional values and heritage of the St. Lucian people. Instead of a tourist purchasing a handwoven basket at the market or on the beach, the government will financially support local artisans through loans and grants to open a workshop where guests can see how the basket is made and maybe even learn to make their own.
“People are no longer satisfied to travel thousands of miles and pay thousands of dollars to come and just stay in a resort with a limited engagement of the outside,” Dr. Hilaire said.
