How do passports get delivered UK?
Secure delivery collection of printed passports – Our business partners collect printed passports directly from central or local print and deliver them to customers in the UK and overseas. Customers will have their passports delivered by:
FedEx (Federal Express) or DHL (Dalsey, Hillblom and Lynn) if they are in the UK DHL if they live overseas

How long does it take for passport to be printed UK?
When is passport send for printing? As soon as application status changes to ‘Printing initiated’, passport is send for printing. It usually takes 1–5 days to finally get it printed.
Can I speed up my passport application UK?
If you’ve already applied for a passport using the standard service, you might be able to upgrade your application and get your passport faster. You can only ask for an upgrade if all of the following are true:
you’re in the UK you need to renew, replace or update a passport, or get a first child passport you need a passport in the next 2 weeks for international travel or for ID HM Passport Office received your documents or confirmation of your identity details at least 6 weeks ago
You’ll need to provide evidence that you need the upgrade, such as proof of your travel plans (like booking confirmations) or your need for ID (such as a letter inviting you to a job interview). Your request will then be considered, and you’ll be told if you can get the upgrade.
Can you fast track a UK passport renewal?
It costs:
- £155 for an adult passport (or £166 for a 50 page frequent traveller passport)
- £126 for a child passport (or £137 for a 50 page frequent traveller passport)
You must have a debit or credit card to use the 1 week Fast Track service. You can use the 1 week Fast Track to:
- renew an adult or child passport that has expired or that is about to expire
- change personal details on your passport (for example your name, place of birth or gender)
- replace a lost, stolen or damaged passport
- apply for a first child passport
If you’ve already applied for a passport and have not received it yet, do not use the 1 week Fast Track service – you will not get your passport sooner. You might be able to upgrade your existing application instead.
What does it mean when my passport status is in process?
What Your Status Means and How to Check It –
- Use the Online Passport Status System to register for email updates about your application status.
- You may not be able to get a status update for 2 weeks after you apply or renew. During these weeks, your application and supporting documents are safely on their way to us.
- Receive automatic email updates on the status of your application by entering your email address after locating your pending application.
What Each Application Status Means
Application Status | Description |
---|---|
Not Available | This update means your application is still in transit to a passport agency or center. During this time, your application is delivered to a mail facility and your payment is processed at an intake facility. When your tracking number says “Arrived,” your application has reached the mail facility. When your payment is processed and check has cashed, your application has reached the intake facility but your status will be “Not Available.” It may take up to 2 weeks from the day you apply until your application status is “In Process” at one of our passport agencies and centers. If you see “Not Available” after 2 weeks, we may be experiencing a temporary, technical issue. Wait several hours and try to check your status again. |
In Process | Your application is being reviewed at one of our agencies or centers. The length of time your application remains In Process depends on the service you selected and our current processing times, |
Approved | We have finished reviewing your application and will begin printing your completed passport. |
Passport Mailed | We are sending your passport to the address you provided on your application. Check our Online Passport Status System for the tracking number if you applied for a passport book. The amount of time it takes to receive your passport in the mail is not included in our processing times. Save or write down your tracking number now. Future status updates will not display your tracking number. Your new passport and supporting documents are mailed in separate packages at different times. We will provide another status update on the date we mail your supporting documents, which may not be sent until 8 weeks after we send your new passport. |
Supporting Documents Mailed | We sent your supporting documents via First Class Mail to the mailing address you provided on your application. Supporting documents may include a previous passport, birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or other citizenship and identity documents. |

What Each Application Status Means

Mailed/Shipped | We are sending your passport to your mailing address. If you applied for a passport book, check your MyTravelGov account for the tracking number. Passport cards are sent via First Class Mail. The amount of time it takes to receive your passport in the mail is not included in our processing times. |
You may also receive emails if we need more information from you to process your application, or if you save your application and do not finish it within 30 days. Our Passport Status page is for applications by mail only and will not indicate the status of your online renewal application.
Who delivers passports in the UK?
Royal Mail wins contract for collection and delivery of passports R has won a five-year contract for the collection and delivery of passports and supporting documents including UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) travel documents. The contract also includes the delivery of internal mail between HM Passport Office offices and other offices.

How long is the fastest passport delivery?

Delivery to us : Purchase Priority Mail Express from the United States Postal Service for faster shipping of your application to us. The price for this service varies depending on the area of the country. Return to you : Pay $19.53 for 1-2 day delivery. This means you will receive your passport 1-2 days after we send it. Include the fee with your passport fee in your check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State for fastest return shipping. Do not submit a return envelope to us with postage pre-paid.
You may receive your passport and the supporting documents submitted with your application in separate mailings. If you are renewing a passport card, we will send it to you via First Class Mail. We do not use 1-2 day delivery services if you only applied for a passport card.

HM Passport Office will text or email you at each stage of the application process. They’ll tell you when: Your passport renewal application has been received. Your old passport has been received.

If you’re renewing or replacing a passport – You must bring your old passport to the Post Office if you still have it. If you’ve changed your name, you’ll also need to bring proof of your new name (like a marriage certificate). If your passport is lost, you’ll also need the name and email address of someone who can confirm your identity.
